Description: French reformer
Education: Studied philosophy, theology, languages at U. of Paris and taught there
Influences: His teacher at U. of Paris influenced him to accept Reformed views, which he fervently preached
Christian Work: Pioneered Protestantism in Switzerland; labored with Oecolampadius in Basel, Bucer in Strassburg, and persuaded Calvin to stay in Geneva (1536); opposition forced Farel and Calvin to leave; Farel went to Neuchatel, where he preached and wrote in support of the Reformation until his death
