David, Christian (1691-1751)

Place of Birth: Born in Moravia of a Bohemian father and German mother

Occupation: Carpenter

Christian Work: Led a group of persecuted Moravian Christians to Saxony to seek asylum (1722); group was warmly received by Count Zinzendorf and allowed to settle on his estate near Berthelsdorf; the new community was named Herrnhut; led several hundred other persecuted Moravian and Bohemian Brothers (Ancient Unitas Fratrum) to Herrnhut in the following years; elected as one of the first twelve elders of Hermhut; led the first Moravian mission to Greenland (1733)
